Swans have a seemingly placid demeanor, and their monogamous mating habits have long made them a symbol of lasting love. But the creatures -- generally snowy white, with long graceful necks and a black "mask" around their eyes -- are territorial and can be quite aggressive w …
Just as the homosexual community has co-opted the word “gay,” various leftists, socialists and Marxists have co-opted the word “progressive.” Words mean things.

Though most katydids are green, once in a while someone discovers a pink one. And indeed while hiking at Middlefork Savanna near Lake Forest recently, Allison Frederick found a pink katydid.
Republican lawmakers in Virginia changed course on another piece of conservative legislation on Thursday, with the State Senate voting to suspend consideration of a bill that would define life as beginning at conception. It was an abrupt reversal for Republicans, and came h …
Last summer we had the annual antique car and 1950s show. Just thought I'd toss up a few of these lovelies to share. I've never been one to remember the "year/make/model" of any car, just really love to look at these old gals.

Oh yeah, next time you are complaining about those dang squirrels getting into the bird feeders, remember this black bear. I don't know who took the photos. One of the hubby's friends emailed them to him this morning. Apparently they were taken off the back deck.

My silly Whiskers has decided to check out the water by standing in it. Then he looks at us as though we are the silly ones for putting it there in the first place!

The weather in these parts can change quickly. Sometimes the cloud cover can be so low as to even obscure the closer low mountains and foothills. These particular clouds brought considerably colder weather and snow.

Oh my goodness trying to keep the kittens out of, or away from the tree was a full time job! Gosh if they weren't wrestling in the tree, they were chewing the branches, swatting ornaments, or pouncing on gifts. I do believe all cats seem to think any decorated tree is their per …

Meanwhile, Mr. Perry on Wednesday filed an emergency order in U.S. District Court in Richmond to have his name placed on the ballot, a day after filing a lawsuit against state Board of Elections members and Republican Party of Virginia Chairman Pat Mullins.
We finally got around to dragging out the old tree and decorating it. The cats had a marvelous time helping with the decorations.

I've dozens of photos of the Rocky Mountains taken from either the kitchen window or the deck. I never get tired of looking at them. They are the most amazing shade of pink to peach at sunrise, and have a spectacular shadow at sunset.

I tagged this "politics" because it was politics that started this ball rolling. It is what keeps this ball growing. This is disturbing.
With a whole lot of patience and fresh batteries, I finally got some good shots of our winged friends! I've been after these for weeks, and totally teased too.

This is in reference to your post concerning evolution vs intelligent design. When you explained the difference between the birds that still migrate vs the ones that have chosen not to, that is basically the "de-evolution" mandated by the 2nd law of thermodynamics. A proven scientific law that says everything seeks its LOWEST point at which it can survive. The birds no longer have to migrate so they don't. And as a result are becoming incapable of migration. But in the end. they are still birds. They (nor anything else in scientific record) have not evolved into something different from what they where. Traits have changed, the creature has not. Therein lies the problem with the theory of evolution. It is a theory and not a law because there is no supporting evidence. From the scientific standpoint, there is the exact same amount of evidence for creationism as there is for evolution. Literally none.
So with no actual scientific evidence to support either theory, Would you prefer to believe in a divine creation? Or that you evolved from a rock?
